A well-designed static safety line system ensures that all roofing tasks, from simple window cleaning through to air conditioning maintenance, are carried out in total security, the safety line bracket system can be installed on all types of roofs, from flat to up to a 45 degree pitch, of all construction types. With versatility very much to the fore, OptiTec Ltd’s Aviator concept offers the ideal solution. The safety line system is designed to operate as a fall restraint or fall arrest system depending on the layout design. All systems have built in shock absorbing units in each bracket and are fitted with an inline shock absorber for added protection to both the worker and the roof. In fall arrest mode, the system can be designed for up to 2 or 3 users at any one time and provide unrestricted access along the full length of the system. Corners and intermediate brackets allow the line shuttle to move smoothly along the full length of the cable between end brackets. Additionally, the fixing brackets can be colour-coded to match the roof finish and can be PVC or TPO coated, so that roof membranes can be bonded to the post.
Abseil anchors are designed to be fixed to a structural substrate such as structural steel or concrete to provide suitable rope access connection points. It is essential when designing rope access to ensure at least 2 different connection points are available to connect to at any one time. There are 2 types of abseil anchors available – abseil brackets and abseil eyebolts. Brackets are supplied in galvanised steel with stainless steel components. Neoprene washers ensure no galvanic reaction can take place. Abseil eyebolts are supplied in stainless steel. Brackets and eyebolts are secured to concrete with resin anchors and to steelwork with stainless steel bolts, washers and vibration proof nuts. When fixing to metal deck or timber deck it may be necessary to provide a backing plate to ensure compliance.
Raptor Rail is designed to be fixed to a structural substrate such as structural steel or concrete to provide a continuous rope access connection point. The rail is supplied with a unique wheeled connection point which moves smoothly along the track and around any profiled corners and bends, without the need to disconnect. The Raptor Rail provides the highest level of safety for all abseil, fall arrest and fall restraint use. Both the track and the connection point are certified for 22kN loads. For aesthetic purposes the Raptor Rail installation can be let into the ceiling to ensure that the smooth lines of the interior design remain untouched.
Davit Base Plates & Arms
Davit base plates are designed to be permanently fixed to a structural substrate such as structural steel or concrete to provide a suitable connection point for a removable Davit arm. Davit base plates can be supplied to be used in conjunction with separate abseil rope connection points or can be supplied with suitable abseil eyebolt connections already attached to the base. The Aviator Davit Arm is designed to be removable and to be used together with the permanent Davit base plates. They are designed for lifting and lowering personnel and materials. The hook on the end of the arm allows abseil and lifting ropes to extend over the roof edge or balustrading. The Davit base can also be used to anchor a personnel fall arrest system when the user is being lifted and lowered.
OptiSafe Maintenance and Testing
Here at OptiTec Ltd we have unique testing facility that simulates the forces generated by an operative falling from a roof. It provides both dynamic and static force testing of roof-mounted safety equipment, including abseil points, davit base plates, and davit arms. The facility, using a roof set at ground level, can be configured for all common and bespoke roof types, and allows for wide roof overhangs, canopies, and widely spaced beams. It is specifically designed to enable testing to European and British standards.
The Testing Tower
The drop-tower is high specification and purpose-built. It allows a weight to be dropped from a height of up to 5 metres. Using a calibrated force-meter, specialist software captures test results to one-tenth of a second. The facility can also easily be configured for static testing. The testing of components and the overall roof system, proves their validity, in the event of a fall.
Safety Inspection & Maintenance Services
All safety equipment of this nature needs, by law, regular inspection and maintenance. Fixed line fall prevention and fall arrest systems need regular inspection and recertification every twelve months. All abseil points and rails need inspection and re-certification every 6 months. As well as providing this service for our own products, we are available to carry out inspections of old or out of date systems and to make the necessary recommendations to make sure that your roof meets current safety legislation. OptiSafe Inspection and Maintenance Services (OIMS) is the department within OptiTec Ltd, dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of our Aviator and Payload products and to ensure our customers are fully up to date and can meet the statutory requirements of the law. Aviator safety lines and access points need to be inspected and recertified annually – by law. Abseil points and rails need similar inspection and recertification every six months.
